Kayaking: Ben Higson
Ben Higson, who is in Year 7 at Cowbridge Comprehensive School, has just been selected to be part of the Jackson Kayaks Little Shredders Team. Jackson Kayaks are the biggest manufacturer of freestyle kayaks in the world and the Little Shredders are picked as being up-and-coming young people (up to age 15) who are also ambassadors to kayaking. There are seven members in the team across the world and Ben was selected for one of the two places that came up this year (and will be the only one in the UK). He is very excited about being selected and had to apply with a blog, picture and video clips. He will need to write four blogs for the website each year. Well done Ben!
Ben has competed in two freestyle events so far this year: The Welsh Open (where he came second in the 14 and under) and Nene (where he won the 14 and under). His scores were actually higher than several of the older competitors, with the third highest points at the Welsh Open (not including Elite paddlers) and fifth at Nene. He also did C1 in Nene where he was the only one competing in this class. The next event will be Nottingham on the weekend of 3/4 June. Good luck Ben!
