Transition Information

The transition from primary to secondary school is a key time for every child.

Our aim is to make it as smooth as possible by working closely with our feeder primaries, pupils and their families through the year prior to transition and by offering a programme of induction days and activities.

Tips and tricks for Year 6

Here is a little taster of the film made by the Creative Schools group with Its My Shout! The film itself will be shown soon but this shows all the hard work that went on behind the scenes in the making of 'Tips & Tricks'.

Behind the Scenes

Dates for your diary:

5th – 9th June 2017 Primary visits

Mrs. Ingram (Assistant Head of Key Stage 3) and the Head of Year 7 will visit our feeder primary schools.

27th June 2017 New Intake Parents’ Evening

Parents are invited to the school to meet with the Head Teacher and other senior members of staff.

28th June 2017 Year 6 Transition Day

During the Transition Day pupils will meet their Form Tutors and will spend the day with their form in their registration classroom.

Pupils will take part in a range of activities designed to get to know pupils in their new form and to familiarise themselves with their new environment.

30th June 2017 Year 6 Subject Taster Day

Pupils spend the day with their forms to experience a day in Cowbridge Comprehensive School taking part in activities organised by a range of departments.

Throughout 2016/17

The Vale of Glamorgan transition officer, Mrs. D. Gibbon will spend time in our feeder primary schools supporting pupils moving to Cowbridge Comprehensive School. Post transition Mrs. Gibbon will continue to meet with and monitor pupils until we are satisfied that all feel happy and settled.

Transition is an ongoing activity. At Cowbridge we are continually looking for ways in which we can work more closely with our primary schools and establish links with departments.

CCS staff frequently meet with primary staff and visit our feeder primaries. Year 6 pupils are often invited to take part in activities such as watching school performances.

XLR8 Camp

What is XLR8?

We have worked in collaboration with Evolve over the past three years  to deliver their XLR8 Summer Transition Programme. This programme is open to all pupils coming to Cowbridge in September 2016.

‘XLR8 Camps are fun, multi activity camps that have been designed to keep all children engaged, active and having fun whilst learning in their new school environment.’

Last years’ regional video can be seen above, and the Cowbridge Comprehensive School Impact Report can be seen here.
