Art students receive prizes and praise from The Cowbridge Arts Group

Our annual Art exhibition, held at the Old Hall Community Centre, with the support of the Vale of Glamorgan Council, was well received by members of the public who commented on the very high standard of the work displayed. As usual, The Cowbridge Arts Group very kindly judge the pieces and then award the winners with cheques which were presented in the Art department by Mr. David Clough. Mr. Clough was then given a guided tour of the student’s artwork displayed around the school and he was so impressed by the variety and standard on show that he has asked for another tour for his Cowbridge Arts Group colleagues next year!

This year’s theme was entitled ‘The Next Step’ and showcased works from our AS students following a foundation phase in school, including organised workshops, and later independent choices of their own topics, which always result in a varied collection.

Our prize winners are as follows:

First prize: Rachel Bent, a really talented student who has applied to full time dance school for the next three years because she is a really talented ballet/contemporary dancer.

Second prize: Hannah Redfern-Hughes, exploring landscape as a theme this year and attended Artist Pete Monaghan’s talk and demonstration (at the Old Hall) and his exhibition in Cardiff. He has inspired her work. Hannah is applying to an Art Foundation Course to do a year’s full time art study before deciding her specialism at degree level.

Third prize: Olivia Stephens, applying to university to study History of Art because of her commitment to all her A Level subjects of Art, English Literature and History.

Well done to all!
