Cancer Awareness Week - 31/01/2022

Cancer Awareness Week takes place during the week beginning 31 January 2022 and to mark this important event, the staff and students of Cowbridge Comprehensive School are encouraged to engage in various fundraising activities. From 6am on Friday, 4 February to 6am on Saturday, 5 February, staff will be engaging in various physical activities to raise money for a vital charity - Velindre Cancer Centre. Students who are undertaking their own fundraising activities, whether physical, creative or culinary, are encouraged to donate their sponsorship money through this page. Upon donating, contributors will be able to share their own story; reasons for donating; and, what they have done to raise money.

Velindre is recognised as The Hospital Of Hope, and this is made possible because of the fantastic and committed support of donors and fundraisers. Fundraising efforts and donations help Velindre to continue to be the leading provider of radiotherapy and other specialised anti-cancer treatments in Wales. It allows them to fund projects which improve the experience and outcomes of patients receiving care and support at the centre.

With your support, they are able to offer better quality of care through complex treatment pathways; earlier access to cutting edge treatments; research into new treatments; the purchase of specialist equipment; the funding of invaluable support services and resources - along with ensuring their staff have access to the most up to date training and techniques available.

Raising money for Velindre has never been more important than it is now. Please support the staff and students of CCS in their fundraising efforts by donating whatever you can. Thank you!

School focus and drive

Cancer Awareness week will this year begin on Monday 31st January and over the course of the week the school will be engaging in a number of awareness raising and fundraising activities. This year the school will be raising money for a number of important charities including the following:

Marie Curie
Multiple Myeloma (bone marrow cancer)
Macmillan
LATCH
Cancer Research
Little Princess Trust
Velindre Cancer Care

Our first focus will be to take part in the Wear Red for velindre on 4th February Velindre’s annual WEAR RED campaign is BACK and we want YOU to join us. #WearRed2022.
Supporting Velindre Cancer Centre has never been easier! Simply Wear Red and donate £1 to Velindre on Friday 4th February to show your support for Wales’ Premier Cancer Centre.
This ALL INCLUSIVE event is open to everyone and we will participate together as a school by wearing an item of red clothing to school. This is not a non school uniform day, therefore it is uniform as usual with an item of red clothing.

Every penny raised from our Wear Red Campaign is invested back into Velindre Cancer Centre to fund a range of services, roles and resources that has a significant impact on the experience and treatment journey of our patients and their families.
Secondly staff will be participating in a 24 hour challenge on Friday 4th February to raise money for Velindre. Starting at 6am on Friday 4th staff will be able to choose an activity of their choice and participate for 1 hour in their allocated slot. They can choose to do this outside or in the comfort of their own house. Activities could include walking, running, cycling, exercise class, pilates, yoga or any other fitness related activity. We hope to conclude the event at 6am on Saturday 5th February having completed the 24 hours raising valuable money for essential cancer research and treatment.
Finally, from the fundraising page we encourage both staff and students to think about their own fundraising ideas and let us know what they have been doing and donate to the charity with any money they have raised. We hope to raise £1500 for Velindre and contribute to the other charities in the coming months. We hope you will join us in these events and raise money for something which is close to our hearts.
